CHS Speech and Debate Reunion

Hello All

If we weren't freaky & geeky enough, there is a speech & debate reunion coming up the weekend of July 19 2008. The program is celebrating 40 years and the gathering is for anyone who participated.

My sister and husband, former debaters, are coming in form Richmond VA to attend. They graduated a few years ahead of of us, but there may have been a little overlap in our freshman & sophomore years. I know there are several of you out there who were involved , so please consider coming if you can.

Has anyone heard from Michael Gotch, Mark Lucas or Michelle Petty. I'd love to let them know about this event too. Details at http://thechslegacy.myevent.com/.

Hope eveyone is well (and still cheking posts from time to time).
Amy D.

Amy,

I just saw Mike Gotch at Christmas. He stopped by my parents house with his parents while we were there visiting. His mom and my mom are pretty good friends so I will try to find out how to get a hold of him for you. I left my email address with him and he was supposed to write but hasn't yet.

I don't know how to get a hold of Mark Lucas but didn't he post here some time ago?

You might try this email address for Michelle Petty: Michelle.Donegan@LightReading.com

I don't know if it is valid but it is worth a try.

Hope this helps...

D

Thanks Derrick

I'm glad to know Mike is well. Mrs. Gotch had posted a message on the Speech & Debate reunion site that made me worry that something had happened to him. Losing Paul was terrible enough. Last time I saw Mike was years ago, post college I think, and our visit was a bit meloncholy. We were not really able to connect.

I have tried Michelle at the email you provided... see if she responds.

Anyway, hope all is well with you.
So what's your story? What's going happening in your life?

After living in Lafayette for so many years, I moved back to the region in 2003. I've been maried for 4 years...ever patiently trying to start a family. I'm working in marketing at an art center in Michigan City - my dream job - and teaching yoga - my other dream job. Life is pretty good.

Hope to hear from you.

Hi Amy and Derrick,
It's Michelle Petty (now Donegan) here. I got Amy's emails and it's so wonderful to get back in touch!

I've been living in England since 1999. Met a Brit on a business trip in Singapore, fell head over heels, got married, and have been living here ever since. We have two amazing boys, Brendan and Ryan (aged nearly 5 and 2). They have English accents and my oldest boy Brendan often corrects my pronunciation -- the cheeky monkey!

I wanted to get into magazine publishing, and somehow ended up as a trade journalist for the telecoms industry (this is when people's eyes usually start to glaze over) -- so I write about the Internet and mobile phones. I really enjoy it.

I write for a web site now, which is great becuase it means I can work from home, and I even get to work three days a week (thank you, Tony Blair -- one good thing he did). So, I've got a pretty good work/life balance thing going on.

No complaints from across the pond! I just really miss my mom these days. The distance seems greater now that I've got kids.

Mom still lives in Valpo and we'll be there this summer for the first two weeks in August. Looks like I'll miss the speech reunion, unless they might consider changing the date for me? (I already bought my tickets for August.) But I suspect that's asking a bit much.

I saw Diana and her mom last summer and her beautiful boy Nathan. I hope to see them again this summer too. And maybe more long-lost friends now that I know where you all are!

Anyway, that's me. I'd love to hear how you're all doing.

Bye for now,

Michelle
