Here I Am
Oh, gee, now I feel like Melissa [and my absence...] has built things up a bit too much...
News news news...
Well, I suppose what she is talking about is the fact that my first year of "teaching" sucked so much that I applied, and was admitted, into the Masters of Library and Information Sciences program at San Jose State. I'll be starting that in a couple of weeks. I'm excited - I think it is the right path for me... more my speed. Plus, there is SO much you can do with the degree: I could work in an Elementary School library, work in the Children's Collection of a public library, work in a corporate/law/medical library, work in an archive, etc.
Even better, I got a page position in the Borrower Services [basically checking books out to people] department of the main branch of the public library here in San Francisco - which I start this week. It's SUPER part-time, but at least it's in the field that I'm trying to get into, and will provide some hands-on experience while I'm in school. Plus, hopefully it will be a foot in the door when I'm actually done with the program and need a full-time position.
AND, for over 20 years I've wanted to own a VOLVO, and Brian and I just bought a 1979 brown Volvo in GREAT shape last week. Her name is Harriet and she's really cute and has been REALLY well taken care of.
AND, for over 20 years I've wanted to see the band ABC live, and I'm getting that opportunity on September 2nd. The show is at a SUPER small club in town and I'm peeing my pants in anticipation!
Brian starts working in a couple of weeks for this place called The Orphanage - they're a special effects company in town. He was there last Spring working on The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3D [which sucked...], and now he's going to work on a Hong Kong horror movie, AND the NEW SUPERMAN MOVIE [Superman Returns]!! COOL, eh?
It's been a good, restful Summer. Brian and I haven't worked a lick in months, yet somehow have managed to stay afloat financially. It's been good for us. We registered as domestic partners with the state of California last week [for car insurance purposes], so we're as "married" in this country as we can possibly be at this point.
Robin, SO glad to hear good things about your mother. I'm thinking of you two.
Diana, best of luck on the gridiron [that IS a football term, isn't it?]. Crack some skulls.
Everyone else, stop lurking and post an update! I promise to do it more often.
All for now. Must go eat and get ready for friends to come over for our weekly "game night"...
LOVE
ERIC

Schmer!
You are so full of good news! Congrats on it all (send a hug to Brian for me as well--let him know that I lurk on his blog, too--I feel like a little stalker! Proud of you two and your "official committment" to each other. It's only a matter of time before our govt. wakes up and legalizes a more appropriate union for two people who love each other....at least I honestly hope it's just a matter of time. Best wishes to the both of you.
Well, I survived my first game this year. We lost 7-6, but it was and awesome game. I've got some awesome bruises, and I'm sure I gave a few good ones, too.
Rock on everyone!

It's your own fault for not posting sooner. Grin. And it's GREAT news!!!
Melissa
Hey Schmer - that is all very good news! Glad to hear from you again.
I'll have to call Monica and see what's up with the old girl. I know she was checking in for awhile. I'll have to make sure she's still lurking.
Wasn't Monica considering returning to the region to work here? Oh, and that man of hers....is he going to make an honest woman out of her?? *wink* Dying to know the scoop.

So....any of us in the path of Katrina?? Monica--you OK? I didn't hear that Atlanta was hit, but I didn't know if it caused any turmoil in your area (relocating patients from other places to your area, etc..) My Chuck has a college buddy that lives in New Orleans--we visited him there ~ 1 1/2 year ago. Amyhow, his buddy was able to evacuate before the storm, but I'm sure he lost everything (thankfully he's a bachelor and didn't own a house--just rented).
Hope everyone is well. I'd bet Mike Butler got a little rain in Tennessee. Brian Swan probably got some good rain, too. Here in Kokomo (north of Indy) we just got a little rain (needed it, too) and things have cooled down a bit--no big deal.
On a lighter note--my football team is doing very, very well!! We are 2-2 so far, and are favored to win our next game. The two losses we had were very close games, too (26-20 in overtime, and 7-6). There are rumors of potentially going to the superbowl....but we're just going to take it one game at a time. I've been playing on the offensive line, and I'm learning more each game and getting more confident. I usually play center, but sometimes I play guard, and rarely play tackle. The games are very physical, but I'm lovin' it. We're going to North Carolina this weekend. OH! Check out my football team's website at www.indianaspeed.org --there are pictures of me in my football uniform (unfortunately, it's usually just my back, but it's still me!) I'm #77. There's a few pics, not many, but they're there.
Hope eveyone is doing well.

Hope all is well with everybody.
We received about 4 inches of rain from Katrina, but no flooding in the Louisville area.
May our prayers be with everyone trying to survive down south.
Brian
Hey to all my long lost friends from CHS! It's me, Kathy. I'm a Saint Louisan now. Is anyone in my neck of the woods? Robin, sorry to hear about your mom. I'll keep her in my prayers. How is the rest of your family?
So much to catch up on! Give me the goods! Love -

A long time ago someone asked about Monica -
Yes, she was thinking about moving up here, but then her brother moved his practice to NC, and she's not sure what to do. She was considering another group in Atlanta, I haven't heard if she followed through with that or not.
As for that man, he is no more. Hasn't been since spring. Dates here and there, but no one permanent last I knew. I must call that girl. It's Monday, 9/16 ... I will add that to my list of important things to do this week.

So should we say this is a "civil union of conveience"? Let's not trivialize - I think is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL and I'm happy for you both.
Enjoy your Volvo. I love mine.... most of the time. It's been on a reliable streak lately.
Sorry that teaching sucked. But i wish you luck in your new endeavor.
