Here I Am
Oh, gee, now I feel like Melissa [and my absence...] has built things up a bit too much...
News news news...
Well, I suppose what she is talking about is the fact that my first year of "teaching" sucked so much that I applied, and was admitted, into the Masters of Library and Information Sciences program at San Jose State. I'll be starting that in a couple of weeks. I'm excited - I think it is the right path for me... more my speed. Plus, there is SO much you can do with the degree: I could work in an Elementary School library, work in the Children's Collection of a public library, work in a corporate/law/medical library, work in an archive, etc.
Even better, I got a page position in the Borrower Services [basically checking books out to people] department of the main branch of the public library here in San Francisco - which I start this week. It's SUPER part-time, but at least it's in the field that I'm trying to get into, and will provide some hands-on experience while I'm in school. Plus, hopefully it will be a foot in the door when I'm actually done with the program and need a full-time position.
AND, for over 20 years I've wanted to own a VOLVO, and Brian and I just bought a 1979 brown Volvo in GREAT shape last week. Her name is Harriet and she's really cute and has been REALLY well taken care of.
AND, for over 20 years I've wanted to see the band ABC live, and I'm getting that opportunity on September 2nd. The show is at a SUPER small club in town and I'm peeing my pants in anticipation!
Brian starts working in a couple of weeks for this place called The Orphanage - they're a special effects company in town. He was there last Spring working on The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3D [which sucked...], and now he's going to work on a Hong Kong horror movie, AND the NEW SUPERMAN MOVIE [Superman Returns]!! COOL, eh?
It's been a good, restful Summer. Brian and I haven't worked a lick in months, yet somehow have managed to stay afloat financially. It's been good for us. We registered as domestic partners with the state of California last week [for car insurance purposes], so we're as "married" in this country as we can possibly be at this point.
Robin, SO glad to hear good things about your mother. I'm thinking of you two.
Diana, best of luck on the gridiron [that IS a football term, isn't it?]. Crack some skulls.
Everyone else, stop lurking and post an update! I promise to do it more often.
All for now. Must go eat and get ready for friends to come over for our weekly "game night"...
LOVE
ERIC
